Two days into the International group stage, us compLexity Gaming have sent shockwaves through the standings. Leading into day three of the tournament, compLexity are sitting third on the ladder with seven points, haven showed a strong display on day two against top-tier opponents. Following their strong performance, Hot_Bid has interviewed captain us Kyle ‘swindlemelonzz’ Freedman on how he lost his passion for gaming and how no one wants to see Techies at the TI5 main event.

us Kyle ‘swindlemelonzz’ Freedman has done extraordinarily well, considering he has only been playing for a year, saying that TI4 got him into Dota 2. Kyle, like fellow American us Peter ‘ppd’ Dager has a HoN background, so his switch to Dota 2 came after some “soul searching”:

I was going to quit gaming after HoN, I accomplished all the goals, we won the fifth LAN, I won the money I needed, I went on vacation, I accomplished the goal I set…to say we were the best HoN team ever…I lost track of why I loved gaming so much.

Speaking with Hot_Bid, swindlemelonzz discussed how his team was aiming for a top 4 position, and they knew that eu Team Secret, cn LGD Gaming and world Cloud 9 G2A were the top teams in the group:

We really needed to 2-0 ua Natus Vincere to have any chance of advancing, a 1-1 meant we would have had to take at least one, maybe two games off of either C9 or Secret, and that’s just difficult…they’re better than we are.

One of the biggest shocks to come out of compLexity’s run at TI so far was the surprise Tusk-Techies pick against cn Invictus Gaming in Game 2, and despite IG trying their best to deal with the combp, it proved too strong. Kyle says he learnt during scrims with Chinese teams before the group stages that the Chinese teams don’t like Techies very much, which played to their advantage:

You’ve got players like cn Zhilei ‘BurNing’ Xu and cn Lio ‘Sylar’ Jiajun , who have been playing Dota for 10 years, and then all of a sudden, there’s this new thing in their lane, they don’t realise, wait, I’m dead, I can’t be here…Techies should have been auto-banned from the tournament.
