After knowing we’d be treated to some quality beachside Dota in the beautiful Portorož, Slovenia for some time, we can finally reveal which teams will be competing, and the format they’ll play through as they battle for their share of $50,000. This will be the first LAN we see lots of fresh teams compete in, making it a good judge of team’s strength for the upcoming season of Dota.

As we revealed over a month ago, the tournament will run from 10-12 September in the coastal tourist hotspot of Portorož. For more information on the event as a whole, check out our earlier article. However, we now know more of the finer details, including teams, format, and casters.

Participating Teams:

eu Team Secret
ru Virtus Pro
se Ninjas in Pyjamas
us compLexity Gaming
eu Monkey Freedom Fighters (nl Wehsing ‘SingSing’ Yuen’s New Team)
eu 4 Clovers & Lepricon
gr Golden Boys (Ex LC)
by ARCADE.Power Rangers

The tournament will run in a standard Double Elimination format, with a Bo3 Upper Bracket and a Bo1 Lower Bracket. The tournament will be rounded off with a Best-of-5 Grand Final. So that a group stage won’t be necesary, seeding will be determined by the organisers prior to the event.

The seeding placements currently stand as such:

  • 1/2 Seed: eu Team Secret & ru Virtus Pro
  • 3/4 Seed: se Ninjas in Pyjamas & us compLexity Gaming

*The rest of the teams will be drawn randomly nearer to the tournament date*

This tournament will certainly prove telling for the quality of certain rosters, most notably Secret, who will be hoping their huge roster changes can help them recover from a disspointing TI finish. While this tournament may not offer great International competition from the likes of us Evil Geniuses or cn CDEC Gaming, it will be the first major LAN for young talent ro Omar ‘w33haa’ Aliwi, as well as the first showing of their new roster, so they’ll hope to give fans a good performance.

Meanwhile, we can see how lineups sadly not at TI will fare against new competition, with NiP and Golden Boys fielding unchanged rosters. It also remains to be seen who will complete the squad of coL, who are without ca David ‘Moonmeander’ Tan and il Tal ‘Fly’ Aizik after the pair left to join dk Johan ‘BigDaddyN0tail’ Sundstein’s new team world Monkey Business.

We can also reveal that our very own Toby ‘TobiWan’ Dawson will be casting not only the Dota at the event, but also the CS:GO tournament which runs from 6-8 September.
